This state leads the way in Fido friendliness.

"Dirigo" Maine's state motto, is Latin for "I lead." And Fido-friendly travelers will see that Maine is one state that "leads" the pack in acceptance and friendliness of both humans and canines.
Have dog, will travel is my personal mantra and probably one of your favorites as well.

Never before have I experienced such hospitality, graciousness, Fido-friendly beaches and parks and parks, and a general sense of dog equality as during b week-long stay in southern and mid-coastal Maine...

My favorite Fido traveler and I spent the majority of our trip on the midcoast of Maine in the picturesque, quaint town of Belfast. Located in Waldo County and named one of the "Coolest Small Towns in Maine" by Budget Traveler, this town has it all: off leash dog park, Penobscot Bay, Fort Knox and quaint shops. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Comfort Inn Ocean's Edge. The staff was hospitable, the amenities divine, and Fido has his own private patio with easy access to grassy areas and Penobscot Bay.

A few short miles from the hotel we found the Belfast Dog Park. Dexter, my 10 month old, life loving Cocker Spaniel, renewed his spirit and basked in the freedom of being off leash...The park was clean, wide and spacious, and Fido friendly water fountains freely dispensed relief to my play-weary pooch.

   After reading this article, Maine will definitely be on the map of places to go for me and my canine best friend. The writer paints a beautiful picture of the area – one I can’t wait to experience!

   Wow, I’ve never been to Maine and did not know it was so dog friendly. I will definitely plan to take a future trip to this area. Great article, I would have never considered this destination.

   Wonderful article. I live in Texas and Maine is a long way away, but this makes me want to make the trip. Shannon, my honey puppy, can wait to see the sun come up there.

   This story gives great information and is easy to read. Anyone who has traveled with a dog or two can now add Maine as a very good destination. Also it was helpful to include specific hotel information. Obviously the hotel people have a sense of humor and are very welcoming to people with dogs (or dogs with people!).
