Debate Boils Over Harvest Break as Maine Potato Tradition Fades Print E-mail

harvest
Jim's comment: This is my family in the 60's at the harvest. I remember this as a fun family time and it contributed to the local economy as we took our hard earned money to local stores to buy school clothes. Another sign of changing times. (I was going to start with "back when I was a boy", but I feel old enough already. Oh, can you guest which is me? )

How I love this photo and the memories it evokes. We had the best time working hard in the potato fields from mid-Sept. to mid-Oct. (NO SCHOOL!) But you couldn't resist throwing rotten potatoes at me....
