Vistas that impressed de Champlain are worth climb

Here I am, standing nervously on a mountainous ledge, surveying a magnificent vista of forest, beach and ocean -- the essence of coastal Maine.

The view is a reward for those who haul themselves up the Beehive, an intimidating, exposed "mountain" of some 150 metres on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island, which holds Acadia National Park in all its stunning natural variety...

...It isn't difficult to understand why people go back for more
